Very rarely does a person read the laws we are expected to follow daily. Very few people know what laws they inevitably break in ignorance on a day to day basis. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Mens Rea is a required element of each and every crime. That statement is contradictory. its an oxymoronic fact. To be convicted of a crime, you must know that there’s a law and your breaking it. Knowingly and intentionally is wording used in most statues or codes. Unfortunately the state is rarely made to meet the burden of proof standard in court. A) People dont know the law B) People fear incarceration or punishment while fighting for their rights and freedom.
